Seismic Fortune

Color Dye Prints on Paper, Lead Pencil, Tempera, Various Dimensions. 2008.

Legal documents and news photos from the 2008 financial crash accompanied by composited photographs of financial buildings from the banking district of Downtown Los Angeles, California. These structures were built on land where formerly stood residential homes in the early part of the 20th Century. They are designed to withstand extreme seismic forces upwards of 7.0 on the Richter Scale. The work explores the risks and rewards inherent in monetizing the idea of Home and examines the upheaval of political, social and financial structures that occur when leveraging against future instability.
