This work depicts mythical sculptural diorama from the Núi Bà Đen War Memorial Park at Black Virgin Mountain, Vietnam. This area of the country saw some of the most intense bombing and combat of the American war and has since been converted into a national monument and recreational theme park.
These crudely-constructed yet sacred sculptures depict the ancient myth of the rebellious monkey king diety Sūn Wùkōng and his supernatural power of 72 Transformations which allow him to embody many physical forms of existence and thus overcome all obstacles.
